* * * * * * WELCOME TO THE POWER MACINTOSH RESELLER CD VERSION 2.0 ! * * * * * *
Our resellers have requested a “real-life” sales tool to showcase Power
Macintosh speed and performance, and here it is! To help you sell the Power
Macintosh, Apple Evangelism and Worldwide Product Development have teamed up
to create the Power Macintosh Reseller CD Version 2.0, APRLE October Supplement, which can demonstrate two selling points for the Power Macintosh.
First, it can help you show the superior performance of the Power Macintosh.
This CD contains folders of demo applications. Each folder contains 68040 and
Power Macintosh versions. When available, a Windows 3.1 version of an application can be found in separate folders at the bottom of the window. By installing the versions on the respective machines, you can plainly show your customers the speed advantage of the Power Macintosh when you run the demos simultaneously.
Second, this CD shows that many applications are available for the Power
Macintosh. The CD contains many familiar applications which are available now. We have provided some demos in English, Japanese, French, German, and Spanish along with demo scripts in each language we could obtain. The applications are organized by the following four categories:
• Communications & Collaboration:
- Mailbox and messaging
- Networking
- Utilities
- Office productivity
- Spreadsheet/Presentation
• Technical:
- CAD
- Technical Analysis
- Vertical Markets
- Developer Tools
• Publishing:
- Design/Illustration
- Desktop Illustration
- Professional Publishing
- Electronic Publishing
- Animation/3-D Rendering
• Learning:
- K-12
- Higher Education
- Games
- Multimedia
- Home Learning
NOTE: For the best performance, you will need to install these demos first!
PLEASE DON'T RUN THE DEMOS FROM THE CD!
All applications on this CD are accompanied by a script which leads you through
each demo, step-by-step. But please keep in mind that because these
applications are demos, they have some features disabled. Venture beyond the
scope of the script, and you might crash the demo!
HOW TO USE THIS CD WITH A CUSTOMER
1. Copy the Demo Applications Directly to Your Hard Drives
• Each application has its own folder, which contains a script, a 68K version,
a native Power Macintosh version, and, when available, a Windows 3.1 version of
the application.
• You will need to install the 68040 applications on a 68040 machine, although
a 68K machine with 8 MB of RAM will work. The Power Macintosh applications will
need to be installed on a Power Macintosh computer, and the Windows 3.1
applications will need to be installed on a system with Windows 3.1.
• We can’t emphasize enough the importance of copying the demo applications
directly to your hard drives. Whenever an application is running off of a
CD-ROM the access time is slower. To get the best performance of these
applications you need to copy these demo applications to your hard drive from
the Demo Applications folder.
2. Run the Demos Side by Side!
• To see the differences in speed performance of the three systems, run the
demos side by side.
• Each application has a script that will guide you through the demo. Follow
the script provided. Running the demos on different machines will show your customers the performance advantage of the Power Macintosh. If you have more than one person to follow the demo scripts you can run the demos simultaneously on different platforms to easily show the performance advantage of Power Macintosh.
**Keep in mind that many of the demos may require that you change the color
mode to something other than the color you have set. To do this, select
Monitors from the Control Panel in the Apple Menu and choose the appropriate
color mode.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
This CD is designed to compare Power Macintosh systems, 680x0 Macintosh systems,

Apple Menu, double-click on the Memory control panel, and click Virtual Memory
on. Then restart your machine from the hard drive. Turning on Virtual Memory
should not be necessary on Power Macintosh systems with 16 MB or more of RAM.
2. Add more RAM to your system.
If you have problems opening any of the Demo Application programs, follow these
steps:
1. Choose Quit from the File menu.
2. Choose Shut Down the Special menu.
3. Remove the Power Macintosh CD from the CD ROM Drive.
4. Restart your computer.
5. Insert the Power Macintosh CD into the CD ROM Drive.

the demo, you can add these fonts to your system folder for a better demo, or
the demo can be run with the fonts you have.
